In an exceptional event… Iraq cancels Friday sermon in Kerbala

Friday prayers at the Imam Hussein shrine in the holy city of Kerbala,

The administration of Imam Hussian Holy Shrine decided on Thursday not to hold Friday prayers tomorrow in the holy shrine in response to what Karbala Health Department called for, in conjunction with the high number of Coronavirus infections in Iraq.

A statement from Imam Hussian Administration said, “Given the current health condition and responding to what the Holy Karbala Health Department called for refraining from holding large gatherings these days, it was decided not to hold Friday prayers this week.”

This is the first time that such a decision has been issued. As It was the usual practice in every Friday for Friday prayers to be held under the leadership of the representative of the religious reference and to deliver two religious and political sermons in which the representative of the reference addresses the general political situation.
